Saladin (1138-1193 CE) was a Muslim military leader who is best known for his role in the Crusades and for recapturing Jerusalem from the Crusaders. He was born into a Kurdish family in Tikrit, Iraq and became the first sultan of Egypt and Syria. He is remembered for his chivalry and justice, and is considered a hero by every Muslims today.

Saladin began his military career as a general in the army of his uncle, Shirkuh, who was serving as a military governor in Egypt. On October 2, 1187 CE, Saladin entered the city of Jerusalem and offered lenient terms to its inhabitants. He is remembered for his chivalry and justice, and allowed the inhabitants of the city to leave unharmed and with their possessions. The event is considered a turning point in the Crusades and marked a major victory for Saladin and the Muslim world.

Saladin continued to fight against the Crusaders and worked to expand his territory. He faced opposition from other Muslim leaders, as well as from the Crusaders, but was able to maintain his position and establish himself as a powerful figure in the region.
